A couple hurdles out of the way in the past two days. The NB Power service tech dropped by yesterday to stake out the service poles for the site. He pointed out two additional trees that should be removed, so I cut them down. I finally found an available electrician who will be submitting the forms for the service permit.

Future Power Line to Highway

The house foundation now will be a concrete slab. A contractor was recommended and has provided an estimate. When he was looking at the site he had concerns about the sideways slope to the site access and recommend I bring in more fill. I contacted my septic/site contractor and today he delivered a few loads of crushed rock to level things out.

Vehicle Access

The concern now is weather. If it gets too wet, a concrete truck may not get up the lawn to the access. After a very dry couple months, the autumn rains have begun…

Things are starting to move. A local contractor delivered and spread crushed rock to fill in a depression on the access-way last week.

On another note, the plans have been revised and expanded to 24′ x 24′.

Delayed

A couple weeks ago I broke the chainsaw. It’s in the shop and a they are waiting for a part to arrive. In the meantime I’ve been working on various small projects on the property.

A well driller has been to the site and is confident they can get in with their drill rig.

The vehicle access for well, screw pile and construction trucks is almost ready. Just a few more trees to cut down and acquiring some gravel to fill in the dips.

Home Update : 2024-July-4

My retirement goal has been to build a 24′ x 20′ home on a friend’s property. The floor plan coming together, currently at version 2.7.

There is no driveway into the build site, so I’ve been clearing an access. I started with a hand saw, electric grass trimmer and lopper, but have since upgraded to a chain saw and gas powered grass trimmer. There is a bit of a dip in the route so I’ll need to get some help getting it filled in.

NB Power has been by to evaluate the site and say that they can bring in an electrical service from the road. Once I clear a 7.3 m wide 90 m path through the scrub at the front of the property, they will start the application process.

For a foundation, I’ll be using screw piles. A contractor has been in and has provided an estimate. Once the access is finished, they will proceed.

The next bit of planning is to see about getting a well drilled.
